New tourist pier at Canilla Dock in Portugalete

The Port Authority of Bilbao has opened a new tourist pier at the Muelle de la Canilla, on the left bank of the Nervión River in Portugalete. The 42-meter-long concrete pontoon, made up of three modules, includes a cantilevered platform and a 12-meter aluminum access walkway with articulated fastening to absorb changes in river height and tides, given its proximity to the river mouth. Besides promoting nautical tourism, the new pontoon will enhance the safety conditions for boarding and disembarking passengers of the historic "gasolino," a vessel that forms part of Portugalete’s cultural heritage.

Almarin, the company responsible for the supply and installation, has secured the structure with tubular metal piles driven into the seabed using its piling tower. Additional accessories have been installed, such as pedestals that provide water, electricity, and emergency services, a rescue ladder, and maritime signage to delineate the pontoon. This infrastructure is thus equipped with all necessary services to offer maximum comfort.
