The buoy became trapped under the ship and, in its attempts to free itself, when the ship turned its engines aft, the flow of water sank the buoy. Two weeks later, the ship managed to be unwound and the buoy returned to the surface. Only the top mark and lantern were replaced and the buoy was operational again. This outcome demonstrates the robustness of the buoy design with its foam and elastomer hull and stainless steel structure. Guias W buoys are ideal for areas with demanding maritime marking conditions. This buoy is one of more than one hundred units that Almarin manufactured and supplied for the renewal of the marine aids to navigation in the ports of Buenaventura and Cartagena.
